Bogle On Mutual Funds: New Perspectives for the Intelligent Investor
By John C. Bogle
see related

Two more weeks...or so

Well I am sitting in the Cafeteria, which they call Patterson's Porch, about to start studying.  All is well down here in Clinton.  Trace and I had a great weekend in Oxford...saw most of you kids.  Thanks again to Carrie and Elliott for letting us stay and play with them.

I'm ready for school to be out.  I want to read John Bogle's Bogle On Mutual Funds.  I can't wait...been wanting to read this book for quite some time...then it is on to Intelligent Asset Allocation.  I'm the bread winner right now and must know what to do with the money that comes in.  How are you people?  I'm going to work on posting more often...seriously.  Oh and Lebowski fest was awesome...wish I could have stayed longer.  The Lady Fitts reigned supreme!!

Stuck in Class

I'm stuck in class and right now I want to be anywhere else but here.  Just found out the bad news and I want to go home.  I had a test at 7:20 this morning and it was pretty hard.  After that I went straight to my Crisis Situations class.  Still here and will be for another 3 hours.  The subject I have to speak on is not the most comfortable now.

How are all of you kids doing?  Love to hear back from you all.

Systematic Theology
By R. L. Dabney

Whole lot a theology, not enough Oxford!

So it has now been over a year since I have posted on this site.  I realize that most people are using Live Journal, but honestly it is harder to bounce back and forth between sites there so I am choosing xanga as my way of keeping in touch with you kids.

Trace is working at Cracker Barrell, which she worked at in High School in Tupelo (she made great tips back then, so we will see if the same is true in Jackson).  Married life is great and real life is starting to sink in with her working and school being in full swing.

Well School is hard, but that is good makes me keep on top of it (I have never kept up with the reading like I am doing now, partially because I have a quiz in two of my classes every time we meet).  I'm taking Systematic Theology III, Pauline Epistles, History of Christianity II, Crisis Situations and Family Psychology & Theology B.  We have our final exam on Monday in Family Psy which is why I am not going up to Oxford right now with Trace (she is making a 24 hour turn around trip).  I'm starting to meet some people in my classes and that is pretty cool, though most of them are M Div (masters of divinity) and as of Tuesday I was accepted into the Marriage and Family Therapy program (starting in the fall).

We miss Oxford and I was really looking forward to coming up and getting a drink with some of you kids, but alas that will have to wait until another weekend.  I will definitely be up there for Double Decker.  I will be posting on here more regularly (hey Melissa, told you I would post and I have, not sure if this constitutes the same week I said I would).  Take care all.  Write back so I can get an idea if anyone is reading these things anymore.

Well it is late and I have a surge of energy, which doesn't come often after 12.  I cleaned my room, which was in desperate need of attention.  I now plan to wash the dishes.  Hope it doesn't wake drew up because he has had a few sleepless nights this weekend...he was sick and is getting over it.  It is very intersting how cleaning up your room/house can make you feel good.  Order seems intrinsic to the way you feel (over all).  I must say this is true for me.  Went to Mardis Gras this weekend in New Orleans with Trace, Leah, Chris, and Becky.  We had a lot of fun, but it is good to be back.  "It is good to go, but it is always good to come home."  I find that a true statement in all travels, but especially long ones.  Well I haven't much else to say...rarely post anymore or talk to any of you.  Hope you are all well.  I'll be working on Monday and Tuesday this week at the Bistro so no Jubillation for me (sadness).  Have a good week everyone.  Hope to see you around.  Night.

Tales from the Library:

Well today I was reading an article in a library between patrons, and a man walked up.  He was a working class man with a thick black Tom Selleck mustache, and wore a flannel lumber jack black and red check shirt.  He had unkept look, facial hair a few days old.  The man looked like he had stories to tell, but little desire to share them.

He walked up to my computer and I soon realized how wrong I was.  He looked to his left and eyed a book on the civil war.  He inquired as to whether the book could be checked out.  I informed him that it could, and not just a display book as he suspected.  We engaged in small talk about the civil war, the american one...not one of the others.  Then rather than prolonging the conversation I threw out a ridiculous patronizing, "it must have been a difficult time to live."  His response was, "I was out west..."  I was taken back.  Could this man have lived during the War Between the States, the War of Northern Agression?  He said he was living in Nevada.  Then he told me that he was working on the 49er trail.  My first thought was that he was in fact not insane but working for the football team in some capacity, but when he stated "trail" I was again confused as to his time frame.  He said he worked in a gold mine, and studied up on the civil war and the 49ers.  Now it made sense, this was a normal with a healthy interest in the War which has shaped/haunted our history and economy ever since.

Before he left he told me that 60% of deaths of 49ers were due to self inflicted gun shot wounds.  He informed me that these men were reckless with their firearms using them as walking sticks and other uninteded uses.  These actions would cause the guns to mis-fire killing their owners.  He laughed and spoke to me as if an older friend who had run into me at the grocery store, "I'll see you later, bud."  I certainly hope so.
